Being a woman is an ultimate blessing because the world is created from you.”Sthree’ comes from the word “sthayi” means the one who make noise or movements meaning the one whom the foetus or child makes movements. Women’s care, pregnancy care and neonatal care were well developed during the Vedic period. Ayurveda always have care, love and respect for women.
Acharya Charaka explaining 20 types of gynaecological diseases and classified them according to vitiated dosha basis. This can be correlated to modern days any gynaecological problems like dysmenorrhea, cervical polyp, amenorrhoea, endometriosis, poly cystic ovarian syndrome, cervical erosion, infections, fallopian tubal block and infertility. Also explaining unique herbal combinations for these problems and treatment procedures specially designed for female body.
According to Acharya Charaka and Susrutha there are 3 main stages in women’s life
- The kapha stage: which includes the infancy, childhood and teenage years
- The Pitha stage: The motherhood and the responsibility years
- The Vata stage : The pre menopause, menopause and old age
Ayurveda for women
Ayurveda has a well-developed obstetrics andgynaecology system known as Sthreeroga and Prasoothi thanthra which deal with all gynaecological problems, antenatal, pregnancy, post natal and neonatal care.
Woman’s body rhythm is very much linked with nature and its changes like lunar changes. Women who have unexplained infertility, medication is best done in harmony with lunar cycle. Ayurveda states that it harmonizes the genital organs, balance hormones and enhances fertility. Woman can connect their body rhythms with nature. So no wonder why women prefer Ayurveda as their own medicine. It is truly a women’s health care system.
